She’s small, well traveled, often has that beautiful olive green skin, she’s quite powerful, and goes by many names. This unstoppable green force is known to many of us as Money. Let’s face it. Money makes the world go ‘round! She grants us the power to buy all the things we want and need. It’s because of money that people get to live comfortably and safely. Money sounds pretty great right?
Well, don’t let that pretty face fool you! She’s not all she’s cracked up to be. Money is a woman of many faces and abilities. She can persuade you to make horrible financial decisions, such as buying a boat. In fact, that girl will argue her case so wonderfully that in that exact moment it seems like a perfectly logical idea to buy a boat on impulse. Then you’ll return home after your purchase, and snap back to reality once you see your bank account! And you’ll ask yourself, “What was I thinking”?
We all have “Money” issues in one way or another. Whether you’re well off, or a struggling college student like myself, it will always be an issue. Why? Because Money isn’t the real problem, WE are. People are greedy and selfish! There are people on this Earth, who hoard money because they refuse to let anyone touch it!
People WORSHIP money. Child, she can have a hold on you and you don’t even know it! You don’t realize when you’re wasting away your cash on material things such as clothes, shoes, and getting your nails done, that you are creating a habit. When all you do is SPEND-SPEND-SPEND, it becomes even more of a habit and eventually turns into an addiction. And to have an addiction means to have no control. Isn’t that crazy, that Money can cause us to lack self-control?
That’s not even the worst of it. One of Money’s most powerful skills is the ability to cause dissensions. In other words, she loves drama. I can’t tell you how many friendships I’ve had that have been burned because of money. Just recently, I had a little bit of a conflict with a friend of mine while at dinner over 2 dollars. 2 stinking dollars! I’ve known this person for a while and I consider this person a family member. I was taken back and hurt that this person humiliated me in front of a group of people over money. Money can hurt you.
So you may be wondering, “Why do we even bother messing with it”? Money seems to cause endless problems. Well, this is not to say that we don’t need it. We just have to be cautious of our decisions with it.
We need the power to say no to those really sweet new pair of shoes we come by in the mall. Money is not to be toyed with, it’s a major responsibility. This means that we ALL need to be careful with who we give our money to and understand the difference between lending and helping someone out. It’s great doing things for people without expecting something back from time to time. We can’t let money become our purpose in life, our purpose is not spending it’s living.
Thank you guys so much for reading! I just wanted to share my thoughts with you all on this subject. Let me know what you think and what I could have done better!
